They are fantastic because they reduce the amount of times that I need to go and water the veg. You can set the duration of watering from 1 minute all the way up to 30 minutes, at 1 minute increments. You then set the intervals at 3/6/12 hours, or 1/2/3 and 7 days. So, to summarise it can be set to come on for 1 minute every 3 hours etc. It is ideal for the green house or poly tunnel, or alternatively fantastic for watering your household plants when you are on holiday. A water source is required IE a water butt or a bucket.
